The Dartmoor Pony Society is a registered charity (1207460) and the sole representative of the Registered Dartmoor Pony in the UK and offers help and guidelines to affiliated Societies throughout the world. We welcome all new members.
The important role of maintaining the Stud Book involves adding up to date records for all living Dartmoors in the UK. These records go back for 100 years. The annual issue of this Stud Book is available for sale in hard copy to anyone interested and available free of charge digitally through Grassroots to all members.
The Society has approximately 500 members and is run by a Council consisting of up to 12 members elected by the membership. The Council is headed by the Chairman and a non-voting President is invited to all council meetings.
Supporting the Council in their work are the three Society Officers; Secretary – Chris Grant, Registration Secretary – Christine Lovat and Treasurer – Paula Benford. The Secretary deals with memberships, production of the Diary and Newsletters, all design work, acting as Secretary to the Council, organising Show Affiliations, communicating with Affiliated Societies and much more. The Registration Secretary deals with Registrations, Transfers, production of passports, liaising with DEFRA, administering the grants given by the Horse Race Betting Levy Board in addition to answering many and various queries. The Treasurer looks after the finances reporting to the Council monthly and AGM annually in addition to taking care of all DPS investments and bank accounts. All three officers work together closely at times to ensure accurate and efficient notification and use of data.
