Requirements for entry into Dartmoor Pony Society Stud Book

All progeny must be out of a Sire and Dam who are themselves registered in the Main Body of the Dartmoor Pony Society Stud Book. The Sire must be Licensed and the Mare not less than two years old at time of conception. Any progeny not conforming to the current by-laws of the Dartmoor Pony Society will be entered into the X register.

If you are contemplating AI please consult the Society’s Bye-Laws, or contact the office for details, before proceeding so that you are complying to the Society’s rules.

The Mare must be owned or leased to the applicant wishing to register their foal. All applications must be received in the Office by 30th November of the year of foaling accompanied by the relevant service certificate or by a declaration if the breeder owns the stallion. Any late registration will be subject to severe penalties and DNA testing.

Breeders are advised to submit foal registration applications prior to the 15th November of the year of birth to avoid paying additional fees after this date. Late registration and DNA costs will be incurred by applications not received by 31st December of the year of birth.

Names and Prefixes

  • No name over 28 letters (Including prefix) may be used
  • Prefixes must be owned by the breeder and extended for use with the Dartmoor Pony Society

The cost of registering a Prefix for your use is £100 (Non Members £200) and adding a name to an existing Prefix is £30 for Members and £60 Non Members.

Stallion Licensing

Applications for licensing may be made, for use at the minimum age of two, at the latter stage of being a yearling.

Cost of Stallion Licensing

  • Members £100
  • Non Members £200

Please Note: Applications must be made to the Dartmoor Pony Society and licensing and veterinary inspection must be undertaken and approval granted in writing prior to covering taking place.

Once the colt is licensed owners should use the the stallion number prefixed with “S” when entering shows (Please refer to the Male status page in the Passport).

Gelding

Please note: Application must be accompanied by confirmation of castration by the veterinary Surgeon or a copy of the invoice for the procedure

The Dartmoor Pony Society makes no charge to transfer colts or stallions to the gelding section in the Stud Book. The Society would however appreciate a contribution towards the cost of postage.

Once the pony is gelded, owners should use the gelding number prefixed with “GD” when entering shows (Please refer to the Male status page in the Passport).

The Dartmoor Pony Society requires the Passport to be returned for amendment to:
